At LeJeune Family Dentistry, we are pleased to provide custom-made dental crowns for patients who need to restore the function and confidence of their smiles. We create dental crowns from artificial materials that are resistant to decay through bacteria in your mouth. However, please be aware that your dental crown is vulnerable to dental problems and needs daily dental care, just like the rest of your smile.

Lingering plaque and food particles that are not cleaned out with a toothbrush and floss can harden and become tartar, which is the main source of gum disease. Deep inflammation and infection in the gums can give bacteria access to the area where your crown meets its abutment. Consequently, the cement holding your crown in place can weaken and come loose, allowing bacteria to infect the sensitive abutment that attaches to your crown and cause decay.

If left untreated, gum disease can lead to the loss of bone structure in the areas where the jaw supports the abutment, which could result in the loss of the complete tooth root.

Dr. Barry LeJeune and our team perform regular dental checkups that include extensive dental cleaning to remove any tartar that was not cleaned during your at-home care, as well as an evaluation of the integrity of your dental crown and your gum health.
