Periodontics

Did you know that the health of your teeth is greatly dependent on the health of your gums? It’s true. Every time you visit our office, we will check the health of your gums so we can ward off any serious problems with early treatment.

There are two stages of gum disease:

  • Gingivitis

This is the early stage. You might notice puffy red areas in your gums. Your gums may bleed when brushing or flossing. By getting your teeth cleaned on a regular schedule and improving your at-home care, you can likely reverse gingivitis.

  • Periodontitis

This is the more advanced stage of gum disease. In addition to bleeding and red puffy areas, you may notice that your mouth has a sour or foul smell. Your gums will start receding and your teeth may begin to loosen.

Immediate professional treatment is needed to eliminate periodontitis before it can cause permanent damage including contributing to heart disease, stroke, respiratory problems and pregnancy complications.

If you see signs of gum disease,

schedule an appointment with us as soon as possible.
